Art Department Presents Senior Art Exhibition 2010 posted 3/3/10
ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College Art Department presents “Senior Art Exhibition 2010,” from March 15 through March 27, in Stubnitz Gallery. Artists in the exhibition include Lora Randolph, Niki Gniech, Anne Goetz and Alecia Garrow.
Works of these artists are united through use of media and concepts; incorporating flowers, figurative imagery, and woven forms. This show is united by the use of painting and sculpture to express memories, varied emotions, and technique. Color also plays an important role in each individual’s body of work.
Lora Randolph (Clinton, Mich.) and Niki Gniech (New Hudson, Mich.) use the female figure in their works to convey meaning, personal beliefs and as a healing process. Ceramic forms are used to help emphasize concept.
Color, technique and form are the basis of Alecia Garrow’s (Lyons, Ohio) installation. She uses the process of weaving to create sculptural pieces and displays these in a variety of settings to project shadows and visual interest. This body of work is more focused on process of creation versus the concept.
Anne Goetz’s (Goetzville, Mich.) exhibition connects snapshots of florals to instances in her childhood and life. Each image brings memories from her personal history. With naturalistic colors and risen surface texture she manipulates the artwork to express emotions felt at different times in her childhood.
This exhibition is open to the public. Stubnitz Gallery is located in Downs Hall off of S. Madison St. on the Adrian College campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. with extended hours on Thursday until 9 P.M. A reception for the artists will be held Sunday, March 21, 2010, from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Admittance into this show and reception is free. Due to tasteful nudity, it is advisable for parents or guardians to preview the exhibition before allowing children to attend.
