College hosts
first annual Women’s Diversity Conference
ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College
celebrates Women's History Month with the first
annual Women's Diversity Conference. The one-day
free conference will be held on Saturday, March
21, 2009, from 8 A.M. to 7P.M. and is open to
the public.
The conference will bring
together women of diverse social, cultural and
economic backgrounds to celebrate women as contributing
and vital members of our community. There are
four main panels with workshops under each topic.
These topics include “Women and the College
Experience”; “Diverse Women: Where
Are We Now?”; “Girls to Strong Women:
Mental, Social, and Sexual Health” and
“The Anatomy of Slavery: Past and Present
Converge.”
The keynote address “Women:
Reclaim your dreams, Rediscover Your Life!”
will be given by Dyann Logwood. Logwood is a
native of Ypsilanti and a professor of Women’s
and Gender Studies, African-American Studies,
and Political Science at Eastern Michigan University
and Wayne State University. Her research focuses
on music’s reaction to domestic violence,
especially in R&B and Hip Hop genres. She
is co-founder of HUES—Hear Us Emerging
Sisters—Magazine whose mission is to make
feminism relevant to younger generations.

the conference and the deadline is Friday, March

This event is co-sponsored
by the women’s studies minor, multicultural
programs and office of academic affairs at Adrian
College. The sponsors request that each conference
guest brings a non-perishable food item as their
“ticket” into the conference. These
food items will be collected and distributed
to local food shelves. Food items will be collected
at the registration tables.
