Adrian College Celebrates Women's History Month posted 3/5/09
College hosts first annual Women’s Diversity Conference

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College celebrates Women's History Month with the first annual Women's Diversity Conference. The one-day free conference will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009, from 8 A.M. to 7P.M. and is open to the public.

The conference will bring together women of diverse social, cultural and economic backgrounds to celebrate women as contributing and vital members of our community. There are four main panels with workshops under each topic. These topics include “Women and the College Experience”; “Diverse Women: Where Are We Now?”; “Girls to Strong Women: Mental, Social, and Sexual Health” and “The Anatomy of Slavery: Past and Present Converge.”

The keynote address “Women: Reclaim your dreams, Rediscover Your Life!” will be given by Dyann Logwood. Logwood is a native of Ypsilanti and a professor of Women’s and Gender Studies, African-American Studies, and Political Science at Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University. Her research focuses on music’s reaction to domestic violence, especially in R&B and Hip Hop genres. She is co-founder of HUES—Hear Us Emerging Sisters—Magazine whose mission is to make feminism relevant to younger generations.

Registration is required for the conference and the deadline is Friday, March 13. To register, please visit http://www.adrian.edu/womens-diversity/ to print out a registration form. Completed forms can be mailed to Idalí Feliciano, director of multicultural programs, Adrian College, 110 S. Madison St., Adrian, MI 49221 or sent via e-mail to ifeliciano@adrian.edu .

This event is co-sponsored by the women’s studies minor, multicultural programs and office of academic affairs at Adrian College.
