An All American Trombone
Recital posted 3/9/09
ADRIAN, Mich. - Trombonist
Graham Middleton and pianist Kathryn Goodson
will be presenting a recital of music for trombone
and piano this Thursday, March 12, at 8 P.M.
in Dawson Auditorium at Adrian College.
The program consists of works
for trombone by American Composers showing the
stylistic and technical range of this under-appreciated
solo instrument. These works range from the
more traditional works of David Fetter, to the
jazz and commercially inspired music of Alec
Wilder. Paul Creston’s “Fantasy
for Trombone” uses the upper register
of the instrument to create a smooth, quasi-vocal
effect, while Arthur Pryor’s “Annie
Laurie” uses the traditions of the John
Philip Sousa Band to show the instrument’s
faster, brilliant side.
Graham Middleton is the low
brass instructor at Adrian College, teaching
Applied Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba, and is
the Principal Trombone with the Adrian Symphony
Orchestra.
Kathryn Goodson serves on
the piano faculty for Eastern Michigan University,
the collaborative piano staff for the University
of Michigan and is Musician in Residence at
Ann Arbor's Northside Community Church.
Dawson Auditorium is
located on the College campus off of Charles
St. Admission to this event is free and open
to the public. |
