Events to be held on
April 6 & 7
ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian
College Equestrian Team is sponsoring an event
called ‘The Celebration of the Horse’
on April 6 & 7, 2009. This year the team
has selected New Vocations Racehorse Adoption
Program as their “adopted” partner
in the event. All proceeds for the two-day event
benefit New Vocations and the Adrian College
Equestrian Team.
Many racehorses face an uncertain future after
their racing careers have ended and New Vocations
provides a safe haven, rehabilitation and placement
in experienced, caring homes. New Vocations
has provided a new life after the track for
over 2,000 horses since 1992 with anticipated
placement of over 200 this year.
The event begins on April
6 with a showing of the movie, “Seabiscuit”
in the Multisport Performance Stadium at dusk.
All concession sales profit New Vocations and
the Adrian College Equestrian Team.
Then on April 7 a silent auction/autograph session
will be held in the Adrian/Tobias room starting
at 9:00 am. Gary Stevens, co-star of Seabiscuit,
three-time winner of the Kentucky Derby and
author of “The Perfect Ride” and
Anna Ford, program director at New Vocations
and author of “Beyond the Track”,
will be signing books and autographs. Both books
are available at the Adrian College bookstore.
The silent auction that will benefit both New
Vocations and the Adrian College Equestrian
Team has both horse oriented and non-horse items.
From 11:30 A. M. to 12:15 P.M. Stevens will
be delivering “The Winning Edge”
in Dawson Auditorium. All of the events listed
above are free and open to the general public.
At 12:30 P.M. the equestrian team will be hosting
a luncheon with Anna Ford as the keynote speaker
in the Adrian/Tobias Room. This luncheon is
free to Adrian College employees. The cost for
the general public is $10 at the door. Anyone
who wishes to attend must R.S.V.P. to Pat Quinlan
by Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at pquinlan@adrian.edu.
The Multisport Performance Stadium and Dawson
Auditorium are located on the College campus
off of Charles St. The Adrian/Tobias Room is
also located on the campus in the Ritchie Marketplace
dining hall.
