Adrian College Celebrates
Declaration Week posted
3/17/09
Campus will hold first
ever event dedicated to freshmen and sophomores
declaring a major
ADRIAN,
Mich. – Adrian College will host Declaration
Week on Monday, March 23 thru Friday, March
27, 2009.
At the suggestion of Dr. Sheri
Bleam, professor of communication arts and sciences,
Adrian College is sponsoring a day to encourage
first and second year students to declare their
majors. All first and second year students are
encouraged to participate in next week’s
events and declare their major on Declaration
Day 2009 which will be held on Friday, April
3.
Declaration Week focuses
first and second year students on their course
selection for advising. It creates an identity
with other students who share common interests.
The week will also give students direction for
their professional aspirations by declaring
a major.
By declaring a major early
on, it allows advisors to support students in
their academic progress.
Declaration week also allows
the College faculty and staff an opportunity
to encourage students in their exploration of
their major. It’s a fun way for students
to engage the mission of Adrian College and
begin living the Ribbons of Excellence.
Career planning in the Administration
Building will be hosting an Open House all week.
Students can stop in and obtain helpful resources.
Donuts will be provided.
On Tuesday, March 24, the
College will host a Declaration Fair from 10
A.M. to 2 P.M. in the A/T Room. This will give
students the opportunity to talk with faculty
and students about programs of study here at
the College. Snacks will also be provided.
First and second year students
who decide to declare their major can pick up
a declaration form in the registrar’s
office, career planning office, Caine Student
Center, with their advisor or print it off the
registrar's
webpage.
Declaration Day will take
place on Friday, April 3 in the Caine Student
Center from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. Students who are
declaring their major are asked to bring their
forms to Caine that day and participate in the
activities. Students will receive a free t-shirt
and have the chance to win numerous prizes including
gift cards to local businesses, an iPod and
a Wii. There will be food and fun for all students
who declare their major that day. We encourage
all students, faculty and staff to support these
first and second year students who declare their
major at Declaration Day 2009.
