Art Department Presents
Second Senior Exhibition
posted 3/19/08
ADRIAN, Mich. - The second
of three Senior Art Exhibitions opens Monday,
March 24 at Adrian College’s Stubnitz
Gallery. Featured is work by Rhonda Beckermeyer,
Hillary Gurtowski, Amy O’Connor, and Kara
Pieracini. The exhibition continues through
April 5.
The artists in the show are
linked by their use of brilliant color. Beckermeyer
creates floor pieces inspired by the earth as
seen from above in her travels. Mountains, bodies
of water, fields, and buildings are all created
three-dimensionally with primary colors of paint
on canvas and other fabrics.
Gurtowski works in the medium
of printmaking. She concentrates on design,
texture, color, and the craftsmanship of inking
and printing her collagraph plates of birds.
The prints that result from her efforts to make
what she refers to as “the one”
are part of her installation.
O’Connor’s cast
fragments of bodies, coated in black paint and
red wax, are displayed amidst wooden flame shapes.
The installation refers to her efforts to come
to terms with childhood trauma and its residual
emotional toll.
Pieracini’s acrylic
paintings consist of layers of abstract patterns,
especially vertical bands of colors based on
the natural world--autumn foliage, pebbles,
and hydrangeas. Without representing nature,
the works describe her sense of the spiritual
and her experiences in nature.
The public is also invited
to a reception for the artists on Saturday,
April 5 between 2:00 and 4:00 P.M. Gallery hours
are Monday through Saturday 9:00 A.M. to 4:00
P.M. and 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Thursdays.
