Equestrian Team Soars
in First Meet posted 2/20/09
Colleen Tekcamp
places first in jumping competition.
ADRIAN, Mich. - The newly
formed Adrian College Equestrian Team raised
more than a few eyebrows at their first Intercollegiate
Horse Show Association (IHSA) Hunt Seat match
which took place Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Nancy
G. Held Equestrian Center at Albion College.
The team is under the guidance of Coach Sandy
Elwood.
Fueled
by an inspired first place performance by Colleen
Tekcamp, completed early in the morning jumping
competition, the Lady Bulldogs continued their
strong performance into the afternoon competition
on the flat. At the end of the day, the girls
had placed in four of the five events they had
entered. They impressed both the judges and
spectators with the quality of the first year
team’s riding skills and composure under
the pressure of their first official IHSA match
as a recognized team.
Under rules, competitors are
required to ride horses provided by the host
school without benefit of a practice ride. The
competition is an extreme test of both horsemanship
and riding skills.
The six Adrian College team members who competed
at the Albion match include team captain Ashlee
Hill, Kori McNitt, Jillian Brown, Katie Sagasser,
Ally Lowe and Colleen Tekamp.
