Month at the Adrian Public Library posted
2/9/09
AC professor Dr. Richard
Koch to lead discussion on Martin Luther King,
Jr.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The
Adrian Public Library, in cooperation with Adrian
College, is pleased to present MARTIN LUTHER
KING JR: LEADER OF THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
on Monday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. in the library
meeting room.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
is usually thought of as the leader and foremost
hero of the 50's and 60's Civil Rights Movement.
He is the only figure from the movement to have
a national holiday established in his memory.
How did he get connected to the movement? How
did he become its leader? What was his special
contribution? And, how can we make use of his
thought and courage to continue to make a difference
today? These will be the topics covered and
the conversation people are invited into during
this presentation.
Dr.
Richard Koch, professor of English at Adrian
College, will be leading the presentation. Koch
has taught courses on the Underground Railroad,
Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Movement, and
African American Literature. He has published
articles on Martin Luther King and Malcolm X
in the National Association of African American
Studies 2007 and 2008 monograph series as well
as presented at conferences on these topics.
Join us for his discussion on this timely topic.
