Adrian College Announces Band Performance posted 2/8/08

ADRIAN, Mich. - The public is invited to hear the Adrian College concert band in performance on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 3 P.M. in Dawson Auditorium on the Adrian College campus.

The band will perform John Philip Sousa’s Gallant Seventh March, and Jan Van de Roost’s Mercury March, which has become among the most important marches in European band literature. Senior music education major Jim Davidson will be the featured soloist on Leroy Anderson’s Trumpeter’s Lullaby.

The band will also perform Anderson’s Irish Washerwoman, an arrangement that allows every band member a chance to demonstrate technical virtuosity. Anderson composed both pieces for the Boston Pops Orchestra. The concert will also feature Jamaican Rumba by Arthur Benjamin, the composer laureate of the West Indies, and Percy Grainger’s Country Gardens, a unique setting of a traditional English Morris dance.

Dawson Auditorium is located on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Charles Street. Admission and parking are free. More information can be obtained by calling the music office at 517-264-3868.
