AC students take home awards at Model Arab League conference

The following awards were given to Adrian College students at the Model Arab League conference which was held at Grand Valley State University this past weekend.

The team prize went to Yemen, one of the countries AC represented at the conference. They took home the award for their teamwork as a country.

Individual prizes were also given out to students Andy Denryter, Rachael Rowe, and John Gallo for their work as individual speakers.

Students discuss Arab politics and history at Grand Valley State University

ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian College students will be participating in the Michigan University Model Arab League Conference this weekend at Grand Valley State University. Michigan is one of a dozen states that sponsor a state-wide, university level Model, held annually in late February.

Model Arab League is a student leadership development program administered by the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations. Participants learn about the politics and history of the Arab world and the arts of diplomacy and public speech. It is also a gateway to exchange programs in the Arabic world.

Adrian College’s country assignments for this year’s conference were Algeria, Syria and Yemen. The other Michigan schools participating are Grand Valley State University, Hope College, Grand Rapids Community College, Muskegon Community College, Spring Arbor University, University of Michigan-Dearborn, and Aquinas College.

Adrian College participates via an upper-level undergraduate course co-taught by the Communications and Political Science Departments. Faculty advisors are Dr. Sheri Bleam and Dr. Phil Howe.

The following students will be representing the College at the conference this weekend: Dave Johnston, Joe Avraham, Jen Blanchard, Mykel Doyle, Rachael Rowe, Mitch Harris, John Gallo, Shana Fbres, Andy Denryter, Amanda Liske, Andy Benson, Josh Emington, Stan Rooksberry, Aaron Hall, Dom Colosimo, Chris Rohnquist, George Stauch and Shane Hinson.
