ADRIAN UNITED METHODIST
CHURCH ANNOUNCES LENTEN SERVICES posted
2/19/07
ADRIAN, Mich. — Adrian local
United Methodist Church will use the Sundays during
Lent to help people focus on serious matters of faith.
Lent is the 40 days leading up to
Easter.
The church has chosen the theme of
the Underground Railroad. During the time of the Underground
Railroad many said they would follow God’s law
or the “higher law” and help people to freedom,
meaning they would break the laws of our nation that
supported slavery in order to gain freedom for all.
Two Adrian College professors are
helping to lead five Sunday night sessions. Dr. Marty
Marks, director of bands, will focus on the music of
liberation and Dr. Richard Koch, professor of English,
will deal with codes, symbols, and the communication
network of those traveling to freedom. Chaplain Chris
Momany will speak on what it means to be loyal to God.
The services are scheduled Sunday
evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of the
United Methodist Church, at 1245 W. Maple Avenue in
Adrian.
