College theatre department produces “Extremities”

Panel discussion planned following
the performance opening night.
ADRIAN, Mich. – When the Adrian
College theatre department produces “Extremities”
Feb. 15-17, they will do more than make you think about
sexual assault – they will also give you a chance
to talk about it.
The play, written by William Mastrosimone,
is a gripping drama about a young woman who is attacked
in her home. She manages to turn the tables on her assailant
and proceeds to exact her revenge. It is certainly a
play about rape, but it also about the breaking point
where each of us can be pushed into violence.
Following the performance on opening
night, the audience is invited to stay for a panel discussion
about sexual assault. The panel will discuss issues
raised during the play and field questions from the
audience.
“Sexual assault is such an important
issue, and especially on college campuses,” said
Michael Allen, Adrian College theatre chair and director
of the play. “The panel will give the audience
a chance to process what they’ve seen with a group
of experts. Everyone from the community is invited to
attend.”
The panel will include a health care
professional, a social worker, a college counselor and
a law enforcement officer. The cast and crew will also
be present.
The play is scheduled Feb. 15, 16
and 17 in Downs Hall Theatre with Thursday and Friday
performances at 8 p.m. and Saturday performances at
2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 for the general public
and $5 for students and seniors.
Please note that the panel is scheduled
Feb. 15 only.
The theatre is located in Downs Hall
on Madison Street. Further information may be obtained
by calling 517-264-3922.
