Adrian College Hosts Passport
Day posted 1/26/09
Study Abroad Office assists
campus community in obtaining travel documents
ADRIAN, Mich. –
The Adrian College Office of Study Abroad is
hosting “Passport Day” on Friday,
Feb. 13, 2009 in the study abroad office from
12-4 P.M.
The community is invited to
attend as well as all Adrian College students
and employees. Passport photos will be taken
and applications will be handed out. The cost
is $5 which includes four passport photos. Personnel
will be on hand to answer any questions regarding
the passport application and process.
Once the application is completed
as much as allowed (applicants can only sign
the application in the presence of the county
passport clerk), applicants can then take their
photo, application, birth certificate, and money
to the Lenawee County Clerk's office, located
on the third floor of the Judicial Building
at 425 N. Main Street in downtown Adrian. Along
with the county clerk's office, passport applications
may be presented at the Adrian Post Office on
Maumee Street.
The cost for a passport is
$100 for a new one which includes a $25 fee
payable to the official accepting the application
(i.e. the County Clerk or the U.S. Post Office).
For those already with passports who wish to
renew, the cost is $75 for a new passport and
the application may be made via mail. There
is no fee for execution of the application.
Passports are valid for 10 years and also serve
as a proper form of identification.
It is important to have all
proper travel documents completed if one ever
wishes to travel out of the country including
to Canada and Mexico, where passports are now
required. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative
(WHTI), the Federal legislation requiring a
passport to travel to or from the United States
is currently only in effect for air travel.
For travel by sea and land (by car), travelers
must present a valid passport or passport card
beginning on June 1, 2009.
Light refreshments will also
be served at Passport Day. The study abroad
office is located in 131 Valade Hall off of
Williams St. For more information about passports,
prospective applicants should visit the U.S.
Department of State's website at www.state.gov.
Additional information regarding the WHTI can
be found at www.getyouhome.gov.

Passport Day event may be obtained by contacting
