Adrian College Art Department Holds Fundraiser

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College art department is proud to present their annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to raise money for the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.

Participants can purchase a meal in a handmade bowl, which is theirs to keep, for $10. All proceeds will benefit local Salvation Army Soup Kitchens.

The fundraiser will be held on two dates. The first is Wednesday, Jan. 30 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. in the Caine Student Center on the Adrian College campus. The event will also be held on Monday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 P.M. at the Lenawee Recreation Center.

According to the Hunger in America 2006 local report prepared for the Food Banks of South Central Michigan, 42% of the people being served by local food banks had to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities or heating. Additionally, 41% of the people being served had to choose between paying for food and paying for rent or mortgage, while 27% of the people had to choose between paying for food and paying for medicine or medical care.
