ADRIAN, Mich. – Going online
with a laptop is about to get a whole lot simpler for
Adrian College students.
The College is in the process of making
the entire campus wireless, including every residence
hall, academic buildings, the dining hall, the library,
the student center, the performance stadium, and administrative
buildings.
The service will allow students and
faculty to use the internet on campus without having
to plug into anything.
“As series of major improvements
to academic life is underway at Adrian,” said
Dr. Jeffrey Docking, Adrian College president. “One
crucial area that we have identified is our wireless
profile. Going wireless will greatly enhance the academic
environment for today’s Adrian student.”
The College is one of the only colleges
or universities in the state known to have a completely
wireless campus.
The upgrade is part of Renaissance
II, the second phase of a strategic plan that over the
next couple of years will overhaul the College’s
academic offerings. A Ren II subcommittee identified
wireless connectivity as one important target area.
Another of the subcommittee’s
recommendations is to increase the bandwidth on campus,
which depending on the vendor’s schedule may occur
in as little as two weeks.
