Ceramics exhibit to open
in January posted 12/20/07
The Adrian College art
department presents new display.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The
art department at Adrian College will present
the “Ceramics & Sculpture Exhibition”
featuring Lynne Chytilo and Sarah Joseph beginning
January 7, 2008.
Lynne
Chytilo is a ceramic sculptor and professor
of art at Albion College. Chytilo’s section
of the exhibition is entitled “Questionable
Companions”.
“Questionable Companions
is a series of works where ceramic renditions
of industrial objects co-exist with non-industrial
objects and create bizarre relationships with
one another,” says Chytilo. “Each
sculpture formally sets up a peculiar relationship,
and I ask the viewer to discover the connections
and to make up a few of their own.”
Sarah
Joseph is a mixed media sculptor and gallery
director at Kendall School of Art and Design
of Ferris State University.
“My sculptures are intended
to be humorous and playful,” says Joseph.
“I draw inspiration from the natural world.
They have distinct personalities and are specifically
named. I have created a pseudo-taxonomy, using
Latin and French, giving each piece a genus
and species name based on its particular characteristics.
By gathering groups of the objects together,
narratives are created as individuals interact
with one another.”
The exhibit will run from
Jan. 7-Feb. 21 in the Stubnitz gallery. Gallery
hours are Monday-Saturday 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.,
and Thursday 9:00 A.M.- 9:00 P.M. Stubnitz Gallery
is located in Downs Hall off of S. Madison Street
on the Adrian College campus.
