Adrian, Mich. - The Adrian
College music department presents its Opera
Workshop performance, “Mad About Opera”,
on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 8:00 P.M. The concert is
scheduled to take place in Dawson Auditorium,
located on Charles Street.
The performance will feature
excerpts from the popular contemporary opera,
Candide, by Leonard Bernstein as well as selected
arias from the contemporary American opera repertory,
including, Little Women (M. Adamo), Vanessa
(S. Barber), and Streetscene (K. Weill).
This performance represents
the culmination of a semester’s work studying
performance techniques and the operatic repertoire
with Elizabeth Major. Michael Gartz is the pianist
for the performance. Twelve music and musical
theatre students will be featured on the program,
as well as a guest appearance by recent Adrian
College graduate, Eric Swanson, tenor, in the
role of Voltaire.
Dr. Thomas Hodgman, chair
of the music department, commented on the performance.
“The students in the
Opera Workshop program at Adrian College have
really taken the stage under Ms. Major’s
instruction,” says Hodgman. “I hope
that our Adrian community will come and see
what fine young musicians are budding at this
institution.”
