ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College
relies on the BOD POD® Body Composition
Tracking System to help keep Lenawee County
and surrounding area residents fit and healthy.
The measure of “body composition,”
or the relative percentage of lean mass to body
fat, is rapidly becoming accepted as an important
indicator to watch.
Scientific studies link obesity
to preventable diseases such as Type 2 diabetes,
heart disease, hypertension, and osteoarthritis.
The BOD POD provides an accurate means of measuring
and tracking this key fitness indicator.
Body composition testing is
crucial to Adrian College’s program because
it serves to accurately determine baseline ratios
of lean muscle mass and body fat.
“Precision using the
latest technology is of the highest importance
for all of our testing and analysis,”
says Dr.
Adam Coughlin, Department Chair and Assistant
Professor of Exercise
Science and Physical Education at Adrian
College. “The BOD POD provides the most
consistently accurate body composition results.”
Developed by Life Measurement,
Inc. (LMI), the BOD POD® Body Composition
Tracking System is an egg-shaped chamber that
uses advanced air displacement technology to
measure body composition. The BOD POD replaces
the inaccurate “caliper” method
of testing used by many health clubs, as well
as the inconvenient underwater weighing method
or “dunk tank” that is commonly
used to test athletes.
The BOD POD has been featured
in numerous national media outlets including
CNN Headline News, USA Today, US News &
World Report, Men’s Journal, Elle Magazine,
and Glamour Magazine.
Adrian College acquired its
BOD POD in November of 2007. The College offers
different health and fitness programs to a wide
range of clients. General health and fitness
assessments and beginning exercise schedules
are available to members of the community who
are new to exercise programs. Extensive training
programs are also offered to elite athletes.
The BOD POD at Adrian College
is now open to the public. For more information
please contact Dr. Coughlin at (517) 264-3966
or acoughlin@adrian.edu.
