Faculty Brown Bag Scholarship Series Continues posted 10/25/10
Professor Fritz Detwiler to discuss Native American Cultures of the Pacific Northwest

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College Faculty Brown Bag scholarship series will continue on Tuesday, Nov.2, 2010 at 12:00 P.M in Knight Auditorium.

Professor Fritz Detwiler, director of the Institute for Ethics, will present on a research project he identified during his NEH Summer Institute - Native American Cultures of the Pacific Northwest. Specifically, his research centers on a key Tlingit term which relates to originating stories and the way in which those stored come to be actualized in ritual performance.

The 2010-2011 Faculty Brownbag Scholarship Series is focusing on scholarly presentations which relate to the Ribbon-Crossing Boundaries and Disciplines. Each presenter will incorporate the College’s Ribbons of Excellence in some way into their presentation.

“’The Embodiment of Power: Tlingit Myth and Ritual’ is bounded by the disciplines of religion, literature, anthropology, art and weaving,” said Detwiler.

Knight Auditorium is located in Valade Hall at the corner of Williams St. and Madison St. All sessions are free and open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch if they so choose. More information on upcoming presentations may be obtained by visiting http://www.adrian.edu/faculty_staff/accet/brown_bag.php .
