Music Department Hosts Tenth Annual Choral Festival posted 10/9/09

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College Music Department will host the annual choral festival for local high schools on Sunday, Oct. 18 beginning at 3 pm in the Adrian College Chapel.

This event is free and open to the public, and will feature performances by high school choirs from Adrian, Tecumseh, Bedford, Onsted and Roeper. The Adrian College Choir and Chamber Choir will also perform.

This year’s clinician is John Tyner, retired coordinator of K-12 music education in Monroe Public Schools. He holds degrees from Eastern Michigan University and Wayne State University, where he was associate conductor of the Choral Union, with further studies at Michigan State University and The University of Michigan. At Monroe High School, in addition to his administrative duties, he conducted the Concert Choir, Mixed Choir, Varsity Singers, and a small select ensemble, Generations of Sound.

His school groups consistently received superior ratings at district, state and national events and appeared at the Midwest Music Educators Conference and the Michigan Youth Arts Festival several times. He has been active in both the Michigan School Vocal Music Association and the American Choral Directors Association holding various positions on the boards of both organizations.

At the choral festival, spectators will have the opportunity to hear each of the choirs perform and then watch as Mr. Tyner works with each group on improving their performance.  Join us for a wonderful opportunity to hear some of the best high school choirs in our area. Doors will open at 2:45 p.m.
