Adrian College Celebrates Operation Education and Veterans posted 10/1/08
Joe McCain and Jim Warner on campus this Thursday to support scholarship.

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College is proud to announce that two prominent speakers, Joe McCain and Jim Warner, will be on campus to promote Operation Education this Thursday, Oct. 2 at 11 A.M. McCain and Warner are both veterans and want to acknowledge their support of the Operation Education scholarship.

McCain and Warner will be on campus to honor and recognize the scholarship as well as the three students who received this scholarship for the 2008-09 school year. Operation Education offers a disabled American veteran, who was injured during combat post Sept. 11, 2001, a full scholarship, which is funded by the College and private donors, toward earning his or her college degree.

Joe McCain, the brother of Senator John McCain, was born in 1942 and is six years younger than the Senator. His own career has encompassed time as a Naval Academy midshipman, medical student, newspaper reporter and advocate for Prisoners of War (POWs). From 1965-66, he served as an enlisted man on the USS Enterprise, an aircraft carrier that launched air strikes in Vietnam.

Now residing in Alexandria, Va. McCain is a freelance writer.

Jim Warner was born in Ypsilanti and attended Eastern Michigan University, enlisting in 1964. Warner was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in 1966, gaining his wings as a Naval Flight Officer the same year.

In October of 1967, while stationed in Chu Lai, Vietnam, Warner was shot down over North Vietnam and held as a POW until 1973. Warner was decorated with the military’s third highest award for valor-the Silver Star, for service to his country. On his return, Warner continued his education, completing a graduate law degree and now serves as corporate counsel practicing intellectual property law in Northern Virginia.

Warner also served as domestic policy adviser during the second Reagan administration. He and his wife Judy reside in Maryland.

The event is free and open to the public. It will begin promptly at 11 A.M. outside on the Adrian College campus in the mall area located between the Stanton Administration building and Ritchie Marketplace, west of the Bell Tower.

Questions can be directed to Ashley Lee in the Adrian College public relations office at 517-264-3175 or via e-mail at alee@adrian.edu.

Please know that Adrian College remains nonpartisan in this election. As an IRS designated 501(c)(3) organization, we do not endorse either candidate in the upcoming election.
