Adrian College Celebrates
Operation Education and Veterans posted

Joe McCain and Jim Warner on campus this Thursday
to support scholarship.
ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College
is proud to announce that two prominent speakers,
Joe McCain and Jim Warner, will be on campus
to promote Operation Education this Thursday,
Oct. 2 at 11 A.M. McCain and Warner are both
veterans and want to acknowledge their support
of the Operation Education scholarship.
McCain and Warner will be
on campus to honor and recognize the scholarship
as well as the three students who received this
scholarship for the 2008-09 school year. Operation
Education offers a disabled American veteran,
who was injured during combat post Sept. 11,
2001, a full scholarship, which is funded by
the College and private donors, toward earning
his or her college degree.
Joe McCain, the brother of
Senator John McCain, was born in 1942 and is
six years younger than the Senator. His own
career has encompassed time as a Naval Academy
midshipman, medical student, newspaper reporter
and advocate for Prisoners of War (POWs). From
1965-66, he served as an enlisted man on the
USS Enterprise, an aircraft carrier that launched
air strikes in Vietnam.
Now residing in Alexandria, Va. McCain is a
freelance writer.
Jim Warner was born in Ypsilanti
and attended Eastern Michigan University, enlisting
in 1964. Warner was commissioned as a Second
Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in 1966, gaining
his wings as a Naval Flight Officer the same
year.
In October of 1967, while
stationed in Chu Lai, Vietnam, Warner was shot
down over North Vietnam and held as a POW until
1973. Warner was decorated with the military’s
third highest award for valor-the Silver Star,
for service to his country. On his return, Warner
continued his education, completing a graduate
law degree and now serves as corporate counsel
practicing intellectual property law in Northern
Virginia.
Warner also served as domestic
policy adviser during the second Reagan administration.
He and his wife Judy reside in Maryland.
The event is free and open
to the public. It will begin promptly at 11
A.M. outside on the Adrian College campus in
the mall area located between the Stanton Administration
building and Ritchie Marketplace, west of the
Bell Tower.
