David Westbrook to Speak
at Convocation posted

Professor will
discuss ‘An Intellectual Possibility in
a Time of Boredom, Terror and Confusion’
at Adrian College
ADRIAN,
Mich. - Adrian College welcomes David Westbrook
to speak at the Dr. James Borland Convocation
Series on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 12:00 P.M. in
the College Chapel.
Westbrook teaches on business
and international topics, including the basic
courses in corporations and international law.
Whether practical, political, or theoretical
in intention, Westbrook's scholarship is grounded
by his considerable experience in both European
and American governments, private legal practices,
and academies.
He is the author of several
critically acclaimed books and his new books
“Navigators of the Contemporary”
and “Deploying Ourselves” are forthcoming.
He has also published widely on the Global War
on Terror, and current geopolitics.
John Eipper, chair of the
department of modern languages and cultures
at Adrian College is a friend of Westbrook and
is encouraging everyone to attend.
“He is a challenging
and thought-provoking writer and one of those
rare animals in today's culture of specialization
- a public intellectual,” said Eipper.
“His 2004 book ‘City of Gold’
is a brilliant analysis of the global culture
that has emerged in our era of multinational
capitalism.”
Eipper believes that his talk
will be quite interesting and very beneficial
to the students.
“I am confident that
David’s talk, ‘An Intellectual Possibility
in a Time of Boredom, Terror and Confusion’
will be of interest to students in the fields
of business, sociology, political science, history,
literary studies, and international relations,”
said Eipper.
Professor Westbrook is the
Floyd H. & Hilda L. Hurst Faculty Scholar
& Professor at the University of Buffalo
and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory
University and a Juris Doctorate degree from
Harvard University.
This event is free and
open to the public. The Adrian College chapel
is located on the College campus off of Charles
