ADRIAN, Mich. – Adrian
College is pleased to announce that the Faculty
Brown Bag Scholarship Series will continue throughout
the month of November. The three dates offered
are Monday, Nov. 3 at noon, Wednesday, Nov.
12 at 4 P.M., and Friday, Nov. 21 at noon.
Adrian College President Jeffrey
Docking will start the November series on Nov.
3 with “AC in the U.A.E.” Dr. Docking
will talk about his trip last spring to the
U.A.E., and the many student and faculty exchange
opportunities the College is developing with
this part of the world. This presentation will
take place in Knight Auditorium.
The second presentation will
be given on Nov.12 by Dr. Michael Claus, assistant
professor and department chair of chemistry.
This presentation is an information session
about the Ribbons of Excellence Day which will
take place next spring on Wednesday, April 8,
2009. The Adrian College campus and surrounding
communities will convene to celebrate the scholarly
and creative activities of Adrian College students.
The purpose of this day is to encourage students
to engage in the acquisition of new knowledge
outside the classroom, and to act as a catalyst
for student/faculty collaboration. Dr. Claus
will provide more details and answer any questions
about the Ribbons of Excellence Day. This presentation
will take place in Stubnitz Conference Room.
The final presentation of
the month will be given on Nov. 21 in Stubnitz
Conference Room. Mr. Jason Hartz will present
“‘American’ Music: What is
or isn’t American in classical music culture
in the United States.” Hartz will investigate
American identity in American classical music,
surveying the attitude and institutions from
American music history.
The 2008-2009 Faculty Brownbag
Scholarship Series is focusing on scholarly
work that discusses and extends the mission
of Adrian College with a particular emphasis
on social justice issues. All presenters are
Adrian College faculty and staff members. This
year’s series is focused on the College’s
150th anniversary which takes place in 2009.
Each presenter will incorporate the College’s
mission statement in some way into their presentations.
The Adrian College Faculty
Brown Bag Scholarship Series was announced as
a new initiative in August 2006 by Dr. Dale
Nesbary, dean and vice president of academic
affairs. Scholarship is being broadly defined
as publications, conference presentations, compositions,
