ADRIAN, Mich. -- Adrian College
has announced the addition of women’s
bowling as a collegiate program beginning in
the 2008-09 school year.
The team will compete as a
United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Collegiate
Member and the Bulldogs will also be joining
a bowling conference, the American Heartland
Intercollegiate Bowling Conference. In the AHIBC,
Adrian College will compete against such prestigious
institutions as the University of Michigan,
Penn State University, and The Ohio State University.
The inaugural season will
begin in October 2008 and the team will conclude
regular season play at the conference championships
in February 2009. Adrian College plans to schedule
a full, highly-competitive schedule for their
inaugural season during the 2008-09 academic
school year. Adrian College is one of four schools
in the state of Michigan to offer women’s
collegiate bowling.
Guiding
the first bowling team will be Luke Harrigan,
who also serves as the assistant baseball coach
at Adrian College. Harrigan is a member of the
USBC Coaches Association and has been working
to make the bowling team an elite program. He
has a wealth of coaching experience, which most
recently includes traveling to Germany in the
summer of 2007 to teach baseball to various
groups through Major League Baseball's Envoy
Program.
“I am very excited about
coaching women’s bowling at Adrian College,”
said Harrigan. “I will do my very best
to achieve success and bring national exposure
to the college.”
