New Members Inducted To Adrian College
Hall Of Fame posted 10/10/07

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College inducted its newest members to the Athletic Hall of Fame at this year's homecoming weekend, Oct. 5-7. The hall of fame is a growing tradition, which started in 1968, and recognizes Adrian's most outstanding alumni athletes. This year's inductees are listed below.

Harold Craft, Class of 1961

Harold Craft was a member of the varsity men's tennis team from his first year in college and lettered every year. He was a first-seeded player and was captain of the team. Hal helped AC record its first win in school history in a match against ranked Kalamazoo College, and helped the Bulldogs finish second in the league. He was also a member of the track team, co-coached the JV basketball team, and was very involved with the Alpha Tau Omega championship intramural basketball team.

While at Adrian, Hal was senior class president. He has stayed active with the ATO fraternity, including as alumni president and president of the board of directors. He was Michigan Republican Businessman of the Year, and received the Boys' Club Award for volunteering to work with children and street gangs in Pontiac, Mich. Hal received the Adrian College Distinguished Alumni Award in 1990, and is currently a College trustee. He is involved with a variety of volunteer and community service activities, and has mentored numerous students.

Hal is president and owner of Craft-Barresi Consultants in Clarkston, Mich. He lives in Houston, Texas.

Roger Davidson, Class of 1967

Roger Davidson lettered for three years in football at Adrian College. He was named to the All MIAA 1st Team two years in a row, and was named to the Michigan Small Colleges All State Selection in 1965. His four interceptions in one game - against Olivet College - has remained the league record for 42 years. He was also Team MVP and captain of the team. In track and field, he lettered three years and holds the record for the 300m hurdles.

Roger earned his master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. He is retired from East Jackson and Northwest schools, where he was a teacher and coached football, basketball and track for 20 years. He was also a track official for the Michigan High School Athletic Association for 17 years.

He and his wife, Dixie, live in Jackson, Mich., and have two grown children, Timothy and Kacy.

Cherokee Hoaglund Hyzer, Class of 1996

Her many athletic awards and distinctions include Academic All American, Honorable Mention All American, Athletic Honor Team, and the All MIAA 1st, 2nd and Academic teams. Cherokee was co-captain her junior and senior years, and was team MVP and Co-MVP. In 1996, she was named the NCAA Woman of the Year.

Cherokee graduated from Adrian summa cum laude with majors in mathematics and chemistry and earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from Indiana University - Bloomington. She is a senior research scientist for Eli Lilly & Company in Indianapolis. Cherokee is the recipient of many fellowships and awards, and has co-authored many journal-published articles.

She and her husband, Dennis, have two children: Jezalyn Sue, age 4, and Cole Steven, age 2. They live in Greenwood, Ind. She enjoys basketball, softball, volleyball and golf.

Stephen O'Neill, Class of 1993

The main reason that Steve O'Neill transferred to Adrian College from Hillsdale was to try to reach his potential as a runner. After seeing how his brother excelled under Coach Forest "Rock" Haines, Steve decided to give the Adrian cross country and track coach a try. Soon he experienced what he called "Rock-tailored workouts," including being dropped off miles away in the town of Hudson and told to run home to Adrian.

Whether or not it was the unconventional workouts, Steve did reach his potential. He set Adrian College records in the 3,000m, the 3,000m steeplechase, the 5,000m and the 10,000m. His records in the 5,000m and 10,000m run still stand today. Steve was a three-year letter winner in both sports, was the co-recipient of the Outstanding Senior Athlete award, and was All MIAA in track and cross country.

Steve is a Sergeant at the Adrian Post of the Michigan State Police. He lives in Owosso with is wife, Teresa, and their two children: Ryan, age 5, and Grace, age 3.
