Value / Experiences
of Studying Abroad
What
students have to say:
“Living
in Oxford and immersing myself in the culture
was the best way I can imagine to study Shakespeare
and his literature. We read the plays, visited
many of the places the plays were set in,
saw the plays performed in the Globe Theatre
and by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford.
I recommend this kind of experience to everyone
I know. In no other way can you learn so much
about the material you study and about yourself
as a student and person as you do when you
study abroad… this is definitely an
experience I will never forget and encourage
anyone to take part in.”
-- Jessica Burkeholder (r), former AC student
who studied at Oxford.
“Oxford
was the best experience of my life thus far.
The history of the university and being immersed
in its culture was not only an eye opening
experience for me because of the contrasts
to American universities, but also for my
own personal benefit as well (learning, growing
as a person, knowing what I can handle and
what I can’t, and more importantly knowing
the challenges make me stronger and no longer
scare me).” --

What Professors have to say:
"In
order to maximize their experiences, preparation
for study abroad usually begins a year in
advance. Students in our local program complete
a course in the culture and history of the
host country before they leave campus. They
will have shared biographical information
with their host family and the family with
them long before they arrive. Our students
are well prepared to succeed academically
and to function appropriately while studying
abroad." - Professor
Don Cellini
"The
faculty share our students' excitement about
the study abroad experience. We work one-on-one
with them in preparing their applications,
in selecting courses, and in transferring
their credits back to Adrian College. We encourage
our returning students to share their adventures
with classmates in and out of class. Any motivated
student can benefit personally and academically
from this experience."
