Modern Language (Spanish)
Adrian College seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish, Ph.D. preferred, but ABD considered. Well-rounded generalist with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Business and Professional Spanish, Hispanic Film, Cultural Studies, US Latino Literature, Language Acquisition and Pedagogy. Exercise Science
The growing Department of Exercise Science and Physical Education invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science.  This is an academic year contract and tenure track position that will begin August 2012.  The qualifications for this position are an earned Doctorate in the exercise sciences or related field.  ABD will be considered. Prior experiences in undergraduate teaching and course development are desirable, and candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to college level teaching, scholarship and service.  Successful candidates will be expected to work closely with the exercise science faculty in curricular development, and general departmental course delivery including but not limited to fitness/wellness courses.  Specifically, strong consideration will be given to applicants with expertise in nutritional sciences related to sport and activity. Other departmental responsibilities include advising students within the Department of Exercise Science and Physical Education. 

The Exercise Science Department touts new facilities and state-of-the-art equipment. Within the last three years the department has acquired a $300,000 grant that has furnished a Human Performance Lab. Combined with previous lab equipment, the lab now contains a 3-dimensional motion analysis system with force plate, EMG, EKG, two ParvoMedics carts, treadmills, ergometers, velotron, BodPod, as well as other research equipment.

Accounting
The Adrian College Department of Accountancy and Business Administration invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Accounting for the 2012/2013 academic year. An earned Ph.D., D.B.A or ABD in Accounting, is the preferred educational background for this position.  Applicants with an earned Ph.D., D.B.A or ABD, in a related field, yet hold a C.P.A. certification and current practical accounting experience, will be considered.

Teaching responsibilities will be mainly in the College’s newly approved (accreditation approval pending) Masters of Science in Accounting program, but, may, include undergraduate level courses as well. Sports Management
The Adrian College Department of Accountancy and Business Administration invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Sports Management for the 2012/2013 academic year.

An earned Ph.D., D.B.A or ABD in Sports Management, Management or a related field is the preferred educational background for this position. The department prides itself on collegial, cooperative relationships among department members resulting in a unified curriculum that prepares students for professional careers. The selected candidate must be committed to student mentoring in preparation for professional challenges, be capable of working with students groups involved in course projects and be able to contribute to departmental assessment. The Business Policy course is the primary departmental assessment device and all department faculty contribute to an assessment of that course through an evaluation of a major group case presentation. Teaching responsibilities will include BBA Sports Management track courses as well as courses existing in the BBA Management major track.

Psychology
The Department of Psychology at Adrian College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2012. The applicant must be able to teach Social Psychology, General Psychology, and Research Methods. Willingness to teach either Industrial/Organizational or Psychology of Gender would be of added benefit. The position also involves engaging students in research, developing courses in your area of interest, academic advising, and college service. A Ph.D. is preferred, but ABD applicants will also be considered. Prior teaching experience is highly desirable.

Mathematics

General Statement of Duties: Supervisor of student affairs offices at the College.  Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment, this administrative position coordinates all activities of student affairs division and the integration of that program with the educational program of the College.

Examples of Duties:
Maintains liaison between the Vice President for Enrollment and other administrative officers and trustees on all matters concerning student housing/residence life, health, counseling, student and Greek activities, campus safety, minority student affairs and social needs of the student body.  Serves on President's Senior Staff and as ex-officio to Trustee's Student Affairs Committee and other college committees as appropriate.  Advises student government.  Ensures that policies established by the trustees, the President or the President's Senior Staff relating to Student Affairs are implemented.  Trains, develops and supervises directors of the following areas: Residence Life, Greek Life, Student Activities, Minority and International Student Services, Health and Counseling Services, and Campus Safety.  Develops and supervises plans to improve facilities and operational efficiencies within the Student Affairs division.  Directs and supervises the College's student judicial system.  Supervises the development of all publications proposed for printing and distribution by the Student Affairs division.  Plans, develops and administers divisional budget to ensure operation within fiscal constraints.  Interprets the College policy and regulations to students, parents, faculty & staff and other College constituents.  Promotes good public relations with the community, general public and educational community.

Qualifications:
Knowledge of college administration.  Knowledge of and significant experience in the principles and practices of student personnel administration.  Five years of experience showing progressive responsibility in college administration; generalist or varied experience in student affairs preferred.  Specific experience in residence life. Knowledge of federal and state regulations and the legal environment as it relates to student affairs.  Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations within the College community.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Director of Campus Safety and Security
General State of Duties: The Director of Campus Safety & Security is the chief safety officer responsible for the protection of all members of the College community and College property; the selection, training, and supervision of all Safety department personnel, the monitoring and control of parking and traffic on campus and the maintenance of departmental equipment and clerical/financial operations. This eleven-month position reports to the Dean of Students.  Must reside on campus or live within 15 minutes of campus.

Classification: Administrative
Education:  Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years experience in a safety or law enforcement position with responsibilities that would facilitate the development of professional expertise with the qualifications specified below.  Work experience on a college campus is highly desirable. Law enforcement training may be considered in lieu of higher education.
Supervision Received:  General Supervision
Supervision Exercised: Supervise Safety coordinator, secretary, night time lieutenants and student officers.
License or Certification:  None                                                   
Work schedule:  Full-time, 11-month.

Example of Duties and Responsibilities   

  1. Provide leadership and management for the Safety department.
  2. Coordinate and schedule safety officer shifts covering the campus at all times.
  3. Responsible for the selection, supervision, evaluation and training/staff development of all student and non-student safety officers.
  4. Ensure that all safety officers receive adequate training with respect to all job duties and responsibilities.
  5. Work closely with the Residence Life staff to coordinate training and development of safety officers with that of residence life student staff members.
  6. Obtain specific locking instructions of buildings and offices from appropriate sources and implement procedures to assure compliance.
  7. Assign safety coverage for special events held on campus, working closely with the Physical Plant, Conferences, Athletics and Student Life staff and other sponsoring departments.
  8. Act as a liaison with administrative offices and college committees on issues related to campus safety.
  9. Personally direct all safety activities during critical incidents and matters of life safety, fire, tornado, bomb threats, etc.
  10. Serve as the building manager for the Caine Student Center.
  11. Coordinate with the Health Center Director the formulation and implementation of medical assistance procedures and student medical transportation.
  12. Coordinate the investigation of campus incidents and student conduct procedures as needed and requested.  Testify in campus hearings as needed and appropriate.
  13. Maintain effective liaison and communication with the Adrian Police department and other appropriate law enforcement agencies.
  14. Design and implement safety procedures and policies as dictated by current events.
  15. Conduct periodic surveys of lighting, traffic, parking, and general safety hazards around campus and submit recommendations to the appropriate personnel.
  16. Conduct programs for students on safety issues pertinent to their well-being, e.g., alcohol and other drug use, campus crime, personal safety, sexual assault, etc.
  17. Design and monitor systems to accommodate all provisions of current parking and traffic regulations.
  18. Work collaboratively with the Associate Dean of Student Life and serve in the duty rotation.
  19. Supervise accountability records related to parking and traffic fine collection and parking decal sales.
  20. Prepare and supervise safety officer salary/wages and departmental operating budgets.
  21. Maintain safety officer personnel files.
  22. Prepare and distribute the annual safety report in compliance with the Federal Crime Awareness and Security Act.
  23. Work with the Director of Housing to develop and implement procedures related to student mail and packages.
  24. Establish departmental goals and objectives in consultation with the Dean of Student Life.
  25. Serve on College and Student Life committees.
  26. Submit reports reflecting all departmental activities and operations.
  27. Perform related duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Life.

Qualifications: A well-developed familiarity with safety operations, preferable on a college campus.  Basic knowledge of law enforcement and the laws and statutes of the State of Michigan, including arrest procedures, probable cause, investigations and report writing.  Certification in first aid, CPR, and training in crowd control and emergency disaster and evacuation planning.  A comprehensive understanding of the nature of college students and the ability and desire to work with them and other members of the academic community.  A demonstrated ability to supervise and develop a staff of diverse, safety officers.  An ability to articulate to other members of the academic community safety policies, procedures and programs.  Understanding of institutional and personnel management practices including operational planning skills.  Willingness and ability to promote cooperation and understanding within the department and college campus.  Beliefs supportive and compatible with the mission statement and goals of Adrian College.

Orchestra Recruiter

Position involves approximately twelve weeks of in- or out-of-state travel per year, frequent written and e-mail correspondence with prospective students and families, weekly evening phone calling sessions and attendance at approximately eight weekend recruitment events each year. Work in conjunction with Admissions Office and Music Department to recruit students in all academic fields who may also participate in the Adrian College Student Orchestra (in addition to Bands, Choirs, and Musical Theatre). Build relationships with high school music instructors in the region. Make school visits and speak with prospective students, teachers and parents. Provide promotional and admissions materials to teachers, counselors and students. Be able to discuss all academic degree programs with prospective students. Discuss scholarship opportunities in music. Hear auditions and award scholarships on the road. Make follow-up phone calls and send follow-up e-mail and other correspondence.  Work with other academic departments in recruiting prospective students who also participate in music. Discover gifted students who would benefit from a visit to our department and take a sample lesson from Applied Faculty.  Attend the annual State Music Conferences / work admissions booth (state MMC, ACDA, ASTA, etc).  Attend annual music festivals / network with teachers (MSVMA, MSBOA, and MAYF). Maintain contact database with up-to-date reports on recruiting progress.  Assist in making arrangements for campus visits, auditions and visits with music faculty.  Work with music faculty and admissions office to develop new innovative recruitment PR materials. Work with department chair to develop website design and content www.adriancollegemusic.org. Work with department faculty to develop new recruiting programs, activities, functions (i.e. festivals, workshops, master classes, summer camps, retreats, guest lecturers, school visits, etc) (Not a complete list of all duties).

Qualifications:
Highly-motivated person with extensive sales experience to recruit music students. Requires high level of energy and creativity; excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills; the capacity to handle multiple tasks at once; and the ability to develop individualized recruitment plans for each student. Broad knowledge and experience in the use of computers for word processing, graphic layout and spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access & Internet). Ability to work effectively when faced with frequent interruptions. Ability to plan and organize tasks according to periodic schedules. Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education preferred. Musical Theatre and Marching Band experience is desirable. Highly organized, personable and reliable.
