Welcome to the diversity education pages of the Adrian College website!

We on the Diversity Education Committee hope to use these pages to communicate with you about diversity education on campus, and to provide you with valuable resources as you learn more about these critical issues.

The Diversity Education Committee offers a range of opportunities to help foster diversity awareness at Adrian College. The committee is an outgrowth of an ad hoc diversity committee that was formed in the spring of 2001 which consisted of faculty, students, and staff. When this earlier committee submitted its report in September 2002, one of several recommendations it made was to offer some type of diversity awareness education on campus.

Please note that we are considering very carefully past diversity education efforts, so that we choose options that most effectively meet AC's current needs. Feel free to contact any of us with concerns or suggestions.

We on the committee feel that improving diversity awareness is very important to the future of Adrian College. As we learn more about this important issue together, we believe that we will make an investment in this campus that will greatly benefit all involved.

Sincerely,

The Diversity Education Committee

Adrian College Mission:

Adrian College is a challenging, caring, educational community where students from diverse backgrounds prepare for active, successful and responsible lives.

Goal of the Diversity Education Committee:

To develop a campus wide training program for faculty and staff that will

  • increase awareness and understanding of ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation;
  • explore the effects of racism, sexism, and homophobia on students, faculty and staff;
  • and enhance understanding of the value of a diverse environment/world in order to celebrate and embrace our differences and to instill the belief in the members of the campus community that diversity is valuable to each of us.

Diversity defined:

Diversity is the mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values and beliefs as assets to the groups and organizations with which they interact.
