Scott Vogel, general manger of Sodexho, said the rule was instituted from the very beginning of Domino’s partnership with Adrian College. Some students would bring in a friend’s ID and driver’s license to Domino’s, saying they were picking food up for a friend. For precautions, this is no longer allowed, said Brian Watson, owner of the Adrian Domino’s. The Watson family has owned the Adrian Dominos for almost 40 years. Sally Watson, Brian Watson’s mother, said she never told the Domino’s staff to check IDs, because she “figured the college kids would be honest.” The staff has now been informed to check this both when students pick up their food and with deliveries. Sally Watson said Domino’s lost almost $200 during AC’s spring break when a student purchased pizza with someone else’s student ID. Brian Watson said he knew the student who did this, and Domino’s is handling it internally. Similar events have occurred three or four times this semester, and another dozen students have tried to purchase food, acting strange when asked for identification to verify the student IDs, Brian Watson said. Watson first found out about these occurrences after students complained to Sodexho about their card being used without permission. “Students will have more security knowing there meal plans are not being used unlawfully, and Domino’s can verify there is no fraud being committed,” Vogel said about the rule. Brian Watson said it’s unfortunate that Domino’s lost money because of these occurrences, but he hasn’t done much about it because he doesn’t want to jeopardize his business with the college. “Most the time, I have to eat it,” he said about the money loss. “It was a little too much trust on my part.” Watson said from this point on, he will be contacting the police department if students try to pass off someone else’s student ID as their own. “It’s nothing different than what I would normally do,” he said. “If someone tried to use a stolen credit card, I would turn them in to the police.” Brian Watson encouraged students to continue to take advantage of Dominos relationship with the college and wanted to remind students they will lose their Bulldog Bucks if they don’t use them by the end of the semester. |
