| This was a trip that was offered to all Earth Science majors
and minors at Adrian College. It was taken during spring break of 2000.
We departed Adrian and left for Texas on Thursday to return on the following
Saturday. On this field trip we had to opportunity to gather samples from
several road cuts. A variety of samples were collected including rhyolite,
pegmatites, limestone, and a varitey of different fossils from the Cretaceous
Period. As well as gathering samples viewed many geologic features such
as faults and dikes. Also we had the opportunity to visit a hot spring as
well as pictographs that dated back several thousand years. The highlight
of the trip was the trail hike that was taken in the Chisos Mountains. We
hiked the South Rim trail that was a fourteen-mile round trip hike. Here
is a collection of pictures from our trip. All photographs were taken by
Dr. Sarah Hanson. Click on the pictures below to see a larger version. |

This photo was taken at Boquillas Canyon near our campsite.
Note the large dike that is shown on the canyon wall. The Rio Grande is
also shown in this picture. |

This is another photo of the canyon. This canyon contained
some limestone beds that measured hundreds of feet in thickness. |

This is one of the many spectacular views from the South Rim
hike in the Chisos Mountains. These mountains were the last strongholds
of the Apache Indians. Mountain lions and black bears are two of the mountains
animal inhabitants. |

This is a photo of one of the "bottomless" lakes at Bottomless
Lake State Park. This is located in Roswell, New Mexico where we spent our
last night of the field trip before the long drive back to Michigan. |
