Institute for Health Studies,
Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies,
Institute for Ethics
Adrian College announces the formation
of its Institute for Health Studies and
Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies.
These two Institutes are the first of
many others to be established. The work
of the Institutes will go far beyond merely
"picking a major" and assistance
in preparing applications for graduate
school. They will provide students with
comprehensive academic and career advising,
as well as strategies for integrating
undergraduate work, experiential learning
and professional preparation.
The Institute for Health Studies is under
the directorship of Marcia J. Boynton,
JD. The Institute will support and serve
students and faculty with academic and
professional interests in the health care
field, drawing on majors and minors from
across the campus.
The mission of the Institute of Entrepreneurial
Studies is not to just help business students
become entrepreneurs but rather help address
some of the disconnect between ideas and
business creation.
The Institute of Ethics, is directed by Dr. Fritz Detwiler. The mission is to create awareness of the ethical dimensions to academic fields of study and to promote its discussion on campus. |

Athletic Training Laboratory & Human
Performance Lab
The Athletic Training
Education Program is making great strides
toward initial accreditation through the
Commission on Accreditation for Athletic
Training Education. With 12 juniors and
14 sophomores, there is a great deal of
excitement around this new major. Most
notably, there are two new lab spaces
to support the application of clinical
and research skills.
The Athletic Training
Laboratory officially opened during the
spring semester, 2009. This space houses
all of the contemporary equipment necessary
for students to learn and practice skills
in the areas of orthopedic assessment,
emergency medicine, rehabilitation, and
more! Multiple treatment tables, therapeutic
modalities, anatomical models, bracing
equipment, general medical supplies and
rehabilitation machines give students
a variety of experiences, while affording
them their own space to become proficient
professionals. Equipped with faculty offices
and a student resource room, students
have unlimited access to all the equipment
the facility offers.
New in the fall 2009
semester, the Department of Exercise Science
and Physical Education will open the Human
Performance Laboratory. Touting one of
the most technologically advanced undergraduate
labs in the country, students will have
access to equipment including EKG, metabolic
carts, the Bod Pod, a 7 camera 3D Motion
Analysis video system, a force platform,
and electromyography to name a few. Data
from this lab will be used to support
classroom knowledge, as well as to allow
students the opportunity for advanced
study in the areas of biomechanics, rehabilitation,
sport performance enhancement, injury
prevention, cardiac rehabilitation, and
exercise physiology. |
