ACCET - Adrian College Center for Effective Teaching
A.C.C.E.T. Supporting Personal Growth and Professional Excellence

Welcome to Adrian College’s Center for Effective Teaching (ACCET) website. ACCET’s mission is to support faculty as educators and scholars. In this capacity, the Center coordinates a variety of opportunities to promote and value excellence in teaching and scholarship.

ACCET Director,
Dr. Donald Cellini

The ACCET programs were begun in 1999 and grew from grants from the Lilly Foundation and the McGregor Foundation. ACCET benefited from the leadership and guidance of its first director, Dr. Diane Henningfeld (1999-2003) and subsequent directors Dr. Scott Behrens (2003-2004) and Dr. Agnes Caldwell (2005-2007). Most recently, Agnes Caldwell developed a number of new programs such as the GIFT Initiative, the Faculty Brown Bag Scholarship Series, the Accent ACCET Newsletter and the ACCET website. The current director is Dr. Donald Cellini.

Dr. Dale Nesbary, Vice President and Dean for Academic Affairs has helped promote these new initiatives through his interest and support of the faculty and his leadership of the Renaissance II process. Of particular note are the new Ribbons of Excellence, which have been created through a variety of efforts on the part of faculty, administration and staff and many of curriculum-related proposals coming from RenII subcommittees.

The 2008-2009 academic year promises to be full of challenges and opportunities: “weaving” the ribbons into the curriculum; new institutes emerging from the RenII process, an increased use of technology for instruction and support.

With these and other changes in mind, ACCET will continue of offer many of the programs initiated in the past and will plan specific events and workshops to help faculty implement new efforts. These will include workshops on the use of BlackBoard™ software and Office 2007 software. It will also include:

  • A three-day orientation workshop for new faculty
  • A one-day workshop for second-year faculty;
  • A workshop on using BlackBoard™ course management software;
  • The Faculty Brown Bag Scholarship Series;
  • Continued publication of Accent ACCET Newsletter;
  • A faculty-led session on their efforts to integrate the ribbons into particular courses;
  • and other workshops as requested by the faculty.
