Social Work Club
The purposes of the Social Club are to provide fellowship and support for students majoring or minoring in Social Work, to provide opportunites and promote -interest in the Social Work Program, and to provide advocacy and awareness-raising opportunities for Adrian College students. This past semester we spread awareness of Domestic Violence Month by selling purple Strength wristbands. We also viewed the movie "Precious" and discussed the social work issues that are prevalent throughout the film. This semester we are planning more movies with dialogue, fundraisers to benefit the club and various agencies such as: Action Against Hunger, the Daily Bread, and the Hope Center which were hightlighted last year. This event demonstrates that donating just a small amount of your money, time, or talents can make a big difference. Feed the Children and the Hope Center were highlighted last year. This year's plans are still underway. The Social Work Club is open to everyone from any major and meets every other Wednesday night at 6pm in Valade 233.

Safe Place
Safe Place is a club that focuses on building an accepting society for the GLBTQ community. Together, we strive to make Adrian College a friendly, safe, and supportive environment for individuals with varying sexual identities and orientations. In previous years Safe Place has made many strides, but none compare to the establishment of the Ally Project Training sessions. Professors and faculty attended these sessions in which they learned how to create an accepting environment for students and at the completion of each session they received posters to post on their doors, deeming that their offices are safe place’s where students can feel comfortable to talk to them.
For the 2010 - 2011 year Safe Place hopes to accomplish many goals, such as: the broadening of Ally Project Training to local schools, an increased knowledge of Safe Place and also an increase in supporters and members, and above all still striving to create a more friendly environment on the Adrian College campus. If you would like to join Safe Place please e-mail the president Jacob Norman (jnorman@adrian.edu) or come to our meetings which are every Thursday at 9pm in the SAE Skybox in the Caine Student Center.
