It’s
hard to imagine a more exciting and essential
career than education. In many ways, the future
is shaped by teachers. So it’s appropriate
that expectations for the work done by teachers
are rising. Adrian College’s Teacher Education
Department, along with the entire college faculty,
are committed to providing the very best preparation
possible, with our central focus always staying
on the lives of the children that our graduates
will impact in their careers.
Although most people automatically think of
school classrooms as the goal for teacher certification,
our programs can lead to a variety of career
options. Our graduates have used the skills
and knowledge they gained at Adrian College
in educational settings at museums and zoos
and in industry. The possibilities are wide
open and incredibly valuable!
Certification standards are rigorous and the
procedures can be complex. As a supplement to
the College Catalog, our department’s
Guide to Teacher Certification is designed to
help our candidates achieve the standards and
work through program requirements with confidence.
We also encourage all candidates interested
in teacher education to ask a member of the
Teacher Education Department to assist with
course selection and scheduling, starting as
freshmen.
Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy
of the information provided in the Guide and
on these web pages. But because State rules
may change with short notice, we occasionally
need to revise programs, policies and requirements.
For example, the 2008-2010 catalog includes
a number of major changes in our majors and
minors. As we make those changes, we promise
to work closely with candidates to keep them
on track towards graduation.
We wish you every success as you pursue your
goals.
