ACCESS
Program
Academic Services
for Students with a Disability
Services available to students
with a documented disability might include one
or more of the following:
- Note-taking services
- Tutors, individual or small
group
- Taped texts, scanner
- Voice recognition software,
computers
- Test-taking accommodations
- Mobility assistance
The Academic Services staff
encourages students with disabilities to develop
and maintain independence; self-advocacy is
strongly supported. Retention and graduation
are the ultimate goals. Contact Danielle
Ward for information on academic
services for a disability.
The Disability Issues
Committee meets regularly to consider
other aspects of life on campus for students
with a disability. The Adrian
College Disabilities Handbook outlines
campus-wide accommodations. Contact Linda Jacobs or download a copy of the
Handbook.
H.A.N.D.S. Student
Organization: H.A.N.D.S. stands for
Helping to Appreciate the Needs of the Disabled
in Society. Their goal is to help people with
disabilities and to educate the Adrian campus
and the surrounding community about disabilities.
H.A.N.D.S. students learn American Sign Language
(ASL), work with students and adults with disabilities,
and support the Adrian College Disabilities
Awareness Week. Contact Danielle
Ward for information on meeting times
and places.
