Shipman Library
Built in 1963, Adrian
College's Library was renovated and expanded
in 2000. A large, attractive space with accomodations
for individual and group study as well as leisure
reading. The collection numbers more than 145,000
volumes, including substantial holdings of microforms
and audiovisual materials. The Library website
provides on-site and remote access to the collection.
In addition, over 70 research databaes, many
including full-text sources, are accessible
campus-wide through the web page. The library
reference area contains 12 computers that are
available for research, and the building also
houses the Gary and Margaret Valade Technology
Center, which includes 37 computers along with
other computer equipment and facilities. Shipman's
Interlibrary loan service allows students to
borrow books, articles and other materials from
college and university libraries nationwide.
Two notable special collections are held at
Shipman Library: The Piotrowski-Lemke Lincoln
Collection and the Detroit Conference Methodist
Historical Collection. The library is open to
students, staff, and the greater community 87
hours per week.
