Founded: 1859

Location: Adrian, Mich. (pop. 22,000). Located 45 minutes from Ann Arbor and Toledo, Ohio, and 90 minutes from Detroit. [directions]

Description: Private, co-educational college of liberal arts and sciences related to The United Methodist Church. It is a traditional four-year, residential college that focuses completely on undergraduate education.

Accreditation: North Central Association of Colleges and Schools

Mission statement: Adrian College, a liberal arts College in the United Methodist tradition, is committed to the pursuit of truth and to the dignity of all people. Through active and creative learning in a supportive community, students are challenged to achieve excellence in their academic, personal, and professional lives, and to contribute to a more socially just society.

Facilities: Twenty-one buildings including residence halls that feature voice mail, wireless internet and cable TV access in all student rooms; a 24-hour student center; a planetarium; an observatory; the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center; and Shipman Library. Faculty: The faculty is dedicated to teaching excellence, and 88 percent hold the highest degree in their field.

Financial aid: More than 85% of students receive some form of financial aid of scholarships, loans, grants, and work study programs, or a combination of these. [more]

Scholarships: Academic, as well as for the fine arts (music, theatre, art). Renewable, and combined awards range from $6,000 to $50,000 over four years. [more]

Athletics: 22 varsity sports total (10 for men, 12 for women), 3 club sports (ACHA hockey, dance, cheer) involving roughly 35% of the student body, 50% participate in intramurals.
Athletic conference: MIAA [Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association], NCAA Div. III. Multi-Sport Performance Stadium dedicated in 2006 for football, soccer and lacrosse
