2008 Season Highlights

  • Defeated #5 Emory University, 12-11, in their season opener in Atlanta
  • Defeated #15 Illinois Wesleyan University twice in games at Rose-Hulman
  • Defeated MIAA Champion Calvin College three out of four games
  • Defeated Piedmont College, 4-3, who is currently #14 in Division III
  • Posted an 8-2 record in the regular season against ranked teams in top 25
  • Defeated #17 Wooster and #12 Heidelberg twice in the Mideast Regional
  • Claimed first regional title in program’s history
  • Claimed first regional title by a team at Adrian College
  • First ever representative from the MIAA in the World Series
  • Set a school record with 34 wins and 22 conference wins
  • Had a season-best nine-game winning streak
  • Freshman Brian Bilius named Mideast Regional MVP
  • Sophomore Steve Vanderheyden and senior Bobby Rickstad named to the all-tournament team at Mideast Regional

  • Adrian ranked 29th nationally (300 teams) in earned run average (3.90)

  • Adrian had a top 20 best win-loss record in Division III (34-11)
  • Junior Alex Webster ranked second in Division III in walks per nine innings (0.33)
    Adrian ranked first in the MIAA in batting average (.331), slugging percentage (.503), on-base percentage (.404), runs scored (188), doubles (55), hits (252), RBI’s (171), home runs (22), total bases (383), hit by pitches (29) and stolen bases (53)
  • Sophomore Alex Cowart led the conference in batting average (.449 – second highest ever), stolen base percentage (16-16), runs (26), RBI’s (33), doubles (12) and total bases (71).
  • Senior Bobby Rickstad was named MIAA Position Player of the Year and is a four-time First Team All-MIAA selection. He ranked first in the MIAA in shutouts (3) and ranked second in RBI’s (27), home runs (6), walks (17) and wins (5).
  • Junior Nick Vandike led the MIAA in saves (4)
  • Junior Alex Webster led the MIAA in runs allowed (12) and walks allowed (1) and was second in wins (5).
  • Adrian scored the most runs in a game (21) in conference play this season.
  • Adrian also had the most hits in a game (22), RBI’s (21), triples (3), home runs (4) and pitching strikeouts (13).
  • Bobby Rickstad, Alex Cowart and Steve Vanderheyden were all named First Team All-MIAA and Todd Meyers made the Second Team all-conference for the third straight year.
  • Bulldogs opened up brand new Nicolay Field this season which marked baseball back on campus for the first time in nearly 50 years. Adrian went 14-4 at home in 2008.
  • Adrian set a school record for fielding percentage this season (.967).
    The Bulldogs hit .313 as a team with an ERA of 3.83.
